CHIPS ARE DOWN FOR CASUAL TRADERS AT RORY GALLAGHER FESTIVAL

The chips could be down for illegal traders at the Rory Gallagher Festival in Ballyshannon after a local councillor called for sanctions to be placed on them.

Cllr Barry O’Neill, who runs the festival, says that up to fifteen chip vans lined the town last year and this had a very negative affect on established businesses.

He said if these bye laws are introduced then they would support local businesses and ratepayers during Ballyshannon’s busiest weekend of the year at the June Bank Holiday Weekend.

Cllr O Neill says most of the casual fast food vendors are coming in from Northern Ireland

“It’s just not on and I would like the council to introduce by-laws in an effort to back our own established businesses.

“These casual traders can come in and then simply pull away after an event. It is not on and I think we need to protect the future of the businesses which are open for the rest of the year,” he said.
