NORTH WEST 10k NOTICE: The North West 10k committee is completing preparations for Sunday’s big charity race and walk in Letterkenny.
It’s important that as people as possible pre-enter to facilitate the smooth running of the event which gets underway at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Entries will close at 1.30 p.m. on Sunday but participants are encouraged to enter on-line by clicking here: www.northwest10k.com.
There will also be an opportunity for participants to enter at Letterkenny Community Centre on this Saturday evening, April 30th from 5 to 7 p.m.
The two main beneficiaries this year are the Save our Sight Donegal – Ophthalmic Department in conjunction with the Diabetic Federation and the Donegal Mental Health Acute Services.
The two charities have undertaken a range of fundraising initiatives in recent weeks including blood pressure days, carboot sales, bucket collection and quizzes.
On Bank Holiday Monday Highland Radio news presenter Donal Kavanagh hosted a quiz in the Mount Errigal Hotel while on Wednesday a flower demonstration took place at Letterkenny General Hospital.
A number of other charities have registered with the North West 10k and are set to benefit significantly from the charity race and walk on Sunday.
A North West 10k walking veteran Packie Gibbons, College Farm Road will give the signal for the walkers and runners to officially start the event. on Sunday week, May 1st in Letterkenny.
The charity event has to date raised over half a million euro for 25 organisations in Donegal. Last year a record 2,200 people took part in the 10k which included 750 walkers.
There will be traffic restrictions on the Pearse Road and Loop Road on the day of the race and walk.
The road will be closed from the Tesco Roundabout at Gleneany House over to JJ Reid Motors along the Pearse Road from 1 to 4 p.m. on the day of the event. No parking will be allowed at the Community Centre.
Parking will be available at McGinley Motors with access from the Justice Walsh Road only. With the race and walk on this Sunday Chairperson is Grace Boyle is asking as many people as possible to enter on-line at www.northwest10k.com or do so on Saturday evening at the Community Centre from 5 – 7 p.m.
Entertainment will be provided on Sunday at the Community Centre by Bridgeen Carr’s Blue Ribbon group.
