DONEGAL captain Michael Murphy lifted the Allianz National League Division Two title at Croke Park today – and then paid tribute to his fellow players and manager.
To cheers from delighted Donegal supporters, the brilliant Murphy also paid tribute to Laois for their part in an enthralling game – particularly in the second half.
Donegal eventually won by 2-11 to 0-16 – a one point margin – after playing most of the second half with 14 men.
Goals from skipper Michael Murphy in the first half and from in-form Colm McFadden at the start of the second half had given Donegal the cushion to just abouth withstand a Laois comeback.
Having been written off by the press ahead of the game, Donegal defied the critics and go into Division One next season as Division Two champions.
It was the culmination of weeks of hard work by the Donegal side who can have confidence going into the Championship in just three weeks time.
