A WOMAN had to be rescued at sea off Bundoran this evening after getting into difficulties.
The alarm was raised by a member of the public who spotted a female swimmer in difficulty.
Another swimmer went to her rescue and kept her company until an RNLI rescue boat was despatched to help.
The lifeboat was at the scene in less than four minutes.
This evening an RNLI spokesman confirmed the woman – who was wearing a wetsuit – had returned safely to shore and was uninjured.
“Thankfully she is very well,” said the spokesman.
However he added: “I would appeal to everyone using our coastal or inland waterways this holiday weekend to do so with extreme caution.
“With the hot weather there is a high number of people using our coasts over Easter. We want it to be a safe and happy weekend but that can only happen if people are sensible about what they do.
“No-one should take any risks whatsoever. Using our waters can be fun, but it can also be very dangerous. Please take care.”
