A DONEGAL-based Garda has joined middle-ranking gardaí in hitting out at the payment of €3m to former AIB boss Colm Doherty last year.
Officers claim it’s further evidence of top bank executives getting away “scot-free” while the ordinary worker suffers.
Sergeants and Inspectors say the three million euro would have been better spent investing in the gardaí, particularly the garda fleet.
Sergeant Paul Wallace, who’s based in Letterkenny garda station, says during last winter’s Arctic conditions gardaí weren’t able to do their job.
He told NewsTalk: “We had an incident where there was the victim of a rape and a member had to take out his own private car which had 4×4 capability to get to the scene.”
He added: “We also had the ludicrous situation where we had Donegal Mountain Rescue doing traffic duty because the guards were stranded at the each side of a mountain.”
