Gaeltacht League.
The Portsalon team under the direction of club President Willie Mc Cleary travelled to the picturesque Cruit Island golf club to participate in the final round of the 2010/11 Donegal Gaeltacht League. In the play off for the overall title was Criut Island, Gweedore, Nairn/ Portnoo and Portsalon golf clubs. The course was indeed busy with the home team teeing off at 7.45 a.m and Portsalon the final group teeing off at 2 p.m. Playing in ideal weather conditions one could have been forgiven for admiring the scenic views surrounding the course, with Arranmore lying off shore in a majestic sea of blue. Portsalon were attempting to achieve a unique three in a row, however the strength of the home team proved to much for the travelling clubs. The overall result favoured the home team Cruit Island as they were clear winners with 395 points, 2nd Nairn /Portnoo 367 points, Portsalon 361 points and Gweedore 356 points. In the overall Gaeltacht League individual Captains prize the winner was Cruit Island’s Brian Mc Monagle with 44 points, Runner up Seamus Mc Garvey 42 points, Gross Michael Duddy 3rd Wm Mc Cleary 41 points 4th Dan Early 41 points. The result of the Portsalon section was 1st Aidan Cannon 40 points, 2nd Cathal Toland 38 points, Gross Andy Boland, 3rd Donal Callaghan 37 points . On presenting the cup to Cruit Island Golf Club the Portsalon President and team captain Willie Mc Cleary congratulate Cruit Island Golf Club on winning the Gaeltacht League title. He thanked the club steward and green staff and everyone who had been associated with this years competition. He extend his and the clubs thanks to all the members who represented Portsalon Golf Club during this seasons competition.
Events
Over the Easter week end there is a host of golf available at Portsalon golf club. On Saturday 23rd April there is a ladies & gent’s open competition sponsored by Mc Cormicks Pharmacy Milford and on Sunday 24th April April there is ladies and gents competition. On Monday 25th April a ladies and gents open competition. Donegal Links Classic
The most eagerly awaited team golfing event of the year has been announced for the North West during the week. The Donegal Links Classic which is staged over three of Donegal’s most prestigious links golf courses Ballyliffen, Portsalon and Rosapenna golf courses. The Donegal Links Classic is scheduled to run over three days May 30th, 31st and 1st June 2011.The Donegal Links Classic is one of the longest running team events in the golfing calendar year and is well worth a visit for anyone interested. The format as in previous years is a team of four (gents or ladies) and the entry fee is €100 per person. There is a host of prizes on offer daily team and individual prizes on each of the course on a daily basis and the overall prizes for the three days golfing. Mixed Foursomes
The second outing in the Portsalon mixed foursomes competitions under the direction was staged of Friday last. The winners was Sara Nicholl and Chris Williams. As Friday is Good Friday there will be no competition and the mixed foursomes will resume on Friday 29th April with a tee off at 5.45 p.m
Results.
The winner of the open staged on Wednesday 13th April was Billy Walsh (19) 40 points Runner up Chuck Mc Taggart (12) 40 points Gross Stephen Connolly (5) 31 points. The CSS was 38 points. On Saturday 16th the winner of the open gents competition was Connor Connolly (5) 38 points, Runner up Cathal Canning (8) 38 points, Gross D P Logue (5) 28 points, 3rd Willie Russell Rosapenna (22) 37 points. The CSS was 36 points. The winner of the members competition staged on Sunday 17th was Brian Harte (28) 38 points, 2nd Pascal Cullen (6) 37 points, Gross Ciaran Burke (10) 27 points, 3rd P J Burke (15) 37 points. The CSS was 37 points
Ulster Cup
The first of the team events will get underway on Sunday 24th as Andy Boland leads his Ulster Cup team to Blackwood Golf club in this first round first leg match
300 Members Draw
The March draw of the Portsalon Golf Club Members draw was held recently. The winners were €400 Niamh Mc Ginley,€300, Russel Porter ,€200 Liam Blaney and €100 each to Aodh Mc Cormack, Myles Friel and Fr Anthony Griffith. The next draw takes place on Easter week end.
