A number of reports today say Liverpool’s Spanish keeper Pepe Reina will leave the club this summer.
He had previously been linked with a move to Man United.
But if Dalglish can pull off Given’s move to Liverpool, it would be a fantastic move for the Donegal man.
Hampered by injury at Eastlands since January, Given had lost his No1 spot with City to Joe Hart.
He was even dropped for European games when he had previously been chosen for them.
Now Dalglish, who has signed Shay twice before at Blackburn and Newcastle United, wants to sign him for a third time.
Given is a huge fan of Dalglish.
Speaking in the book ‘Donegal Sporting Heroes’ by Democrat journalist Ciaran O’Donnell, Given recalls joining Blackburn.
“Kenny Dalglish was and remains a legend in the world of football and his achievements speak for themselves,” says Given in the book.
“I’ve got huge time and respect for him and obviously I’ve gotten to know him a lot better since. When someone like Kenny Dalglish comes calling for you, you don’t hesitate. And I certainly didn’t.”
