Voucher Sunday
One of the largest turnouts of the season was witnessed at Portsalon Golf Club on Sunday last, as the members contested for the biggest prize of the year the voucher Sunday. Playing ideal weather conditions and green manicured to their best, the overall winner was 19 handicapper Johnny Kelly with 42 points. Johnny was closely followed by his playing partner on the day Cathal Canning (9) 42 points. Gross Kevin Mc Gonagle (6) 30 points, 3rd Joe Henesy (14) 41 points.
Mulroy Links Captain’s Day
The 2010/2011 Mulroy Links golfing year concluded on Saturday last with the prestigious Captain’s Day. The event staged at Rosapenna Golf Club’s Sandy Hills course was well attended and the results were as follows, in the gross section the winner was Marty Mc Dermott (5) 34 points, 2nd Barry Mc Gettigan (3) 33 points, 3rd Enda Kennedy (0) 33 points 4th Derek O’Neill (2) 31 points, 5th Pascal Cullen (6) 30 points. In the nett section John Boyce (7) was the winner with 40 points, 2nd Denis Mc Bride (9) 39 points, 3rd John Mc Gettigan (15) 38 points, 4th Chuck Mc Taggart (12) 38 points, 5th Pat O’Neill (14) 38 points. In the golfer of the year the winners were in the gross section Barry Mc Gettigan and in the nett section Chuck Mc Taggart.
Donegal Links Classic
The most eagerly awaited team golfing event of the year has been announced for the North West during the week. The Donegal Links Classic which is staged over three of Donegal’s most prestigious links golf courses Ballyliffen, Portsalon and Rosapenna golf courses. The Donegal Links Classic is scheduled to run over three days May 30th, 31st and 1st June 2011.The Donegal Links Classic is one of the longest running team events in the golfing calendar year and is well worth a visit for anyone interested. The format as in previous years is a team of four (gents or ladies) and the entry fee is €100 per person. There is a host of prizes on offer daily team and individual prizes on each of the course on a daily basis and the overall prizes for the three days golfing. On Saturday 16th April there is a gent’s open competition and on Sunday 17th April there is a member’s competition. Mixed Foursomes
The second outing in the Portsalon mixed foursomes competitions under the direction was staged of Friday last. The winners was Joe & Deirdre Hensey The competitions will continue each Friday and the captains would encourage members to participate in these practice competitions with a tee off at 5.45 p.m
Gaeltacht League.
With all matches now completed the format for the Captain’s prize has now been finalised. The Captain’s prize will be staged at Cruit Island Golf Club over two days Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday Rosapenna, Cloughaneely and Dunfanaghy golf clubs will play. On Sunday contesting for the overall Gaeltacht League title it will be the teams who finished in the top four of the league, Cruit Island, Gweedore, Nairn/Portnoo and Portsalon golf clubs. The captain of the Gaeltacht League and club President Willie Mc Cleary would like to extend his and the clubs thanks to all the members who represented Portsalon during this seasons competition.
Results.
The winner of the open staged on Wednesday 6 th April was Daniel Shields (15) 39 points Runner up Damian Toland (5) 36 points. The CSS was 35 points. On Saturday 9th the winner of the open gents competition was Hugh Carney (12) 38 points Runner up Jimmy Chawlke (15) Skerries 35 points. The CSS was 34 points
