WEATHER BRINGS BUMPER WEEKEND TO DONEGAL

GLORIOUS weather brought a bumper weekend to Donegal – with tourists and locals alike flocking to major attractions…and the shops!

Traffic tailbacks in some areas spelled misery for some motorists, but the sunshine was a welcome boost to the local economy.

Visitors to Glenveagh National Park included tourists from America, Spain, France, Italy and Germany as well as hundreds of locals.

Bundoran, Portsalon, Donegal Town and Buncrana saw hundreds of people taking to the beaches to leave the doom and gloom of the recession behind.

And there was a noticeable increase in the number of visitors from the North, with pubs, hotels, B&Bs and restaurants across the county reporting a great weekend

Hundreds of people also flocked to Rathmullan to visit the naval ship LE Niamh.

And Alcorns Garden Centre in Letterkenny was pulling in the crowds to its new €500k butterfly house.

The weather was a welcome boost ahead of a later Easter tourism trade.

The warm weather however will end today with April showers and colder temperatures of around 10C returning for the next few days.

However the BBC is reporting a return to drier weather late on Thursday in time for the weekend and the start of a fortnight’s holidays for many schools in the county.
