Judge Seamus Hughes asked Inspector Jarlath Folen during a sitting of the Mullingar District Court to arrange a meeting for him with the chairman of the Mullingar Tidy Towns Association.
The Judge told the Inspector that he would like a scheme to be organised where people before the court could do work with the Tidy Towns.
Brian Ready, chairman MTT, confirmed that he will be meeting with Judge Hughes tomorrow!
Mullingar Tidy towns have already received a financial boost from the district court, when people before the court were instructed to make a contribution to the association.
“We have, for the first time, received financial assistance to help with our work and I understand that there is also a proposal to consider creating a scheme which includes some community work,” explained Brian.
Judge Hughes had been appointed to District Court No One, which saw him sit at District Courts in Donegal.
The Judge explained during that recent sitting of Mullingar District Court that he had made a similar arrangement with the committee of Letterkenny Tidy Towns that had “worked well”.
He said he would “clean up this town” – literally!
