2’S were got by C.Doherty,S.Harris,D.McLaughlin,M.Houston,E.Corry,M.Davis and K.Lapsley had two.As J.Harding had a hole in one he takes half of the balls and those with 2’s will receive 2 balls each.
The Alliance finally got a competition played after 4 cancellations because of the inclement weather .After the gales and rain of the last week Saturday turned out to be quite mild apart from one shower. Most of the golfers showed how rusty their games are with just two breaking par.The course as ever was in excellent condition.A fitting tribute to Johnny Shields ,head Green keeper and his staff .
What a competition Johnny Harding had .He has joined North West Golf Club after being a member of City of Derry for 21 years. He just fancied a change and what a change he has got .His 69 nett won the nett by 2 strokes and his score was also the best Gross He topped all that with a hole in one, with a 6 iron on the par 3 10th all of 142 metres .
When he had got to the 10th he was 3 over having had an indifferent start being 3 over after 5 holes. He birdied the 8th the par 5 only to give the shot back to the course again at the 9th.
How his ace at the 10th lifted him he parred the next 4 holes dropped a shot at the 15th birdied both the 16th and 17th and finished with a par so from 3 over after the first 9 he was 3 under for the back 9 This gave him a very comfortable victory at level par Gross.
Noel Callan free from golf teaching duties for the day won the Gross. He was 4 over for the first nine and level for his back nine in fact it was a perfect 9, he hit all greens in regulation and he parred every hole.
The runner up in the Gross was Keelan Quigg, he too was 4 over on the front nine and a bogey on the 12th and 8 pars saw him finish a shot back on 77.
The 2nd Nett was Keith Shiels who was the only other player to finish under par .He had a very steady round with a mixture of 9 pars, 8 bogies and 1 birdie.
In the golfer of the year in the Nett Keith Shiels is on 16, Eamonn McGlinchy 13, Kieran Doherty 12 and Eddie McHugh also 12 all Letterkenny except Kieran who is a member of Strabane.
In the Gross Justin MacLochlain, North West is on 20 followed by Michael McGeady, the tour professional also on 20 and Justin McIntyre from City of Derry is third on 18.
