THERE’S JUST no stopping Finn Valley’s Tori Pena as she set a new national pole vault record this weekend.
Competing at a tournament in New Mexico, she cleared 4-30.
Speaking to Irish manager Patsy Mc Gonagle afrerwards a delighted Tori said: “The meet went really well. I opened at 4.05, and cleared on the 1st attempt, the 4.20 with a clearance on the 1st attempt and then 4.30 with another clearance on the first attempt.
“I had some decent attempts at 4.40, I just need to get to some bigger poles and I will be there no problem. Feeling great, can’t wait for another meet next weekend.”
This mark is a qualifier for European championships next month in Paris . She returns to Ireland next week to prepare for the nationals in Belfast .
