Slimmers from across Donegal have topped the poll in a competition aimed at losing weight and getting people back on the road
to fitness.
The poll was organised by Slimming World which oversaw the 12 week campaign to encourage people to shed the pounds.
Incredibly men and women from across the county managed to lose a massive 955 stone during the slimathon – almost half of the entire weight shed by the entire nation!
In total Irish people lost a whopping 2,000 stone with the average dieter losing 11Ibs.
Lynn Newson, District manager of Slimming World, which aims to promote healthy dieting, said Donegal was a shining example to the rest of the country.
“Losing all this weight in just 12 weeks is incredible and shows what can be achieved when we work together as a community.
“The people of Donegal should be very proud of what they have achieved and the people there must feel so much healthier as a result,” she added.
Donegal dieters shed more than three times as much as their nearest rival Louth whose slimmers lost 300 st while Dublin dieters came in third shedding a gut-busting 258st.
Slimming World boss Lynn added “Obesity is a problem that affects our whole community so our Let’s Beat It Together campaign called for families and local communities to come together and support eachother to improve their health, confidence and self esteem”.
