While Donegal Daily‘s Charlie Collins had some doubts about Donegal reaching an Ulster Final this year, Jim McGuinness certainly did not hold the same beliefs.
In a candid interview with the Glenties man, he told Collins this week his young team has character in spadefuls.
He said that while the Tyrone game was ‘getting away from us’, after going three points down on two separate occasions, Donegal ‘had to respond and responded well’ when under pressure and ‘found a way’.
Looking forward to Sunday’s sell-out clash in Clones, he said Armagh are formidable opponents who have been ‘knocking on the door’ for some time now.
“They’ve had a lot of heartache over the last couple of years and will be looking to set the record straight,” he said.
“Also, they have only been beaten on penalties by some of the top teams in the last couple of seasons. We know what we are going-in against and they are a battle-hardened team who know their way around big occasions and are going to present a massive challenge for us.”
However, McGuinness pointed out that Donegal have also come along a ‘very difficult route’ this year against both Derry and Tyrone.
“But, we are there on merit and we will have to give a really good account of ourselves.”
He added that an Ulster Final in Clones is a ‘phenomenal occasion’ that he, his team and backroom team are thoroughly looking forward to.
