Two major Greenways will be officially opened in Donegal this Friday.
The completion of the Lifford to Castlefinn Greenway and the Muff to Quigley’s Point Greenway are set to have a hugely positive impact on the economy of both areas, according to Donegal minister, Charlie McConalogue.
Speaking ahead of Friday’s official opening of the two local greenways by the Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Jack Chambers, the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine said both will provide huge benefits for the Donegal public.
He said “Transport Infrastructure Ireland has allocated significant funding in recent years for the provision of greenways in Donegal. It’s fantastic to see the Lifford to Castlefinn Greenway, which cost €3.6 million, and the Muff to Quigley’s Point Greenway, which cost €6 million, fully finished now.”
“There are massive benefits to having greenways and the standard of finish of both routes is second to none.
“The provision of more greenways in our county is the way to go and there is no doubt that the opening of these two multi-million euro projects will have a hugely positive impact on both localities.
“These greenways will provide a safe corridor for walkers and cyclists between neighbouring towns and villages.
“They are invaluable tourist attractions and will also serve to promote a healthier way of living.”
St. Eunan’s National School, Raphoe and Scoil Cholmcille National School, Newtowncunningham Safe Routes to School will also be officially opened by Minister Chambers on Friday.
“The projects in Raphoe and Newtowcunningham are initiatives I know the local people in the area were keen to have put in place. They will add greatly to the safety of roads users who travel to and from the schools on a daily basis.
“Great credit goes to the staff of Donegal County Council for their efforts on all four projects, and to the local public representatives, community groups and organisations who have lent their support,” Minister McConalogue said.
