Young Letterkenny man in court on cocaine charge

A young Letterkenny man has appeared in court charged with possessing cocaine.

Cormac Finn was before Letterkenny District Court on Thursday.

A 23-year-old of Borehill, Letterkenny, Finn was charged with an offence contrary to section 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, 1977.

Sergeant Maurice Doyle told the court that gardai searched the defendant at 1.22am on December 30, 2022 on Pearse Road, Letterkenny.

Finn was searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Sergeant Doyle told the court that a small bag containing cocaine, valued at €35.

The court heard that Finn has no previous convictions.

Mr Patsy Gallagher, solicitor for Finn, said his client is a student and was ‘fully co-operative’ with gardai.

“There is no other substantive charge,” Mr Gallagher said.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham said Finn could avoid a conviction if he makes a contribution of €200 to the Donegal Hospice. A default order of a conviction and a €250 fine was laid down by Judge Cunningham.
